Irma Flack and Jack Flanagan, a Jewish resident and a community affairs officer at the 41st Precinct, came together to form the Bronx Frontier Development Corporation. They organized to clear vacant lots and remove cars that had been dumped in their neighborhood. Over the course of their operations, they developed nine vacant lots into open spaces for communal use, collected materials from Hunt’s Point to compost, and provided cooking and nutritional workshops for neighbors.
