The Elmhurst Community Design Center was founded in 1982 and co-sponsored by the East Oakland Community Corporation and U.C. Berkeley’s Department of Architecture. Mary Comerio, Professor Emeritus of U.C. Berkeley and an important resource on the history of community design, helped co-found the organization.
