National People’s Action (NPA) is a federation of 29 grassroots organizations that work on economic and social justice issues. In the 1970s, NPA led a successful campaign to pass the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to end discriminatory lending practices. NPA argued that banks had a responsibility to invest in their communities and provide credit to underserved areas, and the CRA was necessary to ensure that banks were meeting this responsibility.
