Urban Land Institute

1936

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a nonprofit, member organization of land use and real estate experts focused on the creation of healthy, resilient, and high-performing communities. It was established during the Great Depression when more objective data regarding land use and real estate trends were needed. It has since become one of the most cited sources of information in urban planning literature. The ULI has also advanced community-based approaches to development, such as supporting the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Community Design Centers program in the early 1970s. This initiative provided funding and technical assistance to community design centers across the United States.
