West Side Organization

The West Side Organization was by unemployed African American men who wanted to support each other in the labor market. The organization’s main objectives were to address poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, and dependence on public welfare. They facilitated recruitment, offered evening education programs, and published their own weekly newspaper to keep their Chicago neighborhoods informed.
