Standish Baldwin was a philanthropist, suffragist, and a co-founders of the National Urban League with George Edmund Hayes. She was the daughter of abolitionist Samuel Bowles III, which inspired her work in civil rights and collaboration with Haynes. She later served on the Board of Trustees for Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
